Program 2024

         The Society meets on the Fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm                                             in the Talberd Room, Foakes Hall, Great Dunmow

 Entry is £2 for members and £4 for guests.

The society hosts a meeting each month in the Talberd Room, Foakes Hall, Great Dunmow from September to May, with a break over the summer. They start at 7:30pm and everyone is welcome, both members and non-members. There is no need to book; just turn up.

Our meetings cover a range of topics; from gardening and horticulture to nature, the countryside and many other related subjects

Getting out and about

The society organises trips to gardens, flower shows, landmarks and other places of interest. Trips are open to members or non members.

Everyone is welcome

Meetings and trips are open to everyone, whether you are a member of the society or not. There is no need to book so just come along and say hello. Entry is £2 for members and £4 for non-members

Time for a break

Meetings are time for socialising as well as listening to speakers. Tea/coffee and biscuits are included in the entry cost and there is usually a raffle and members can also sell surplus plants and produce

Shows

Our shows alternate between a summer show one year, and a spring and autumn show the following year. We also normally hold a show at the Flitch Trials

anyone can be a showstopper

Shows are not just for serious gardeners. We love to see entries from casual gardeners, clubs, children, cooks or crafters. Even if you just want to enter 1 item, why not give it a go?

classes for Everyone

Classes include flowers, vegetables, floral art, crafts, photography, food and drink and children. There really is something for everyone and it’s free to enter!

prizes galore

Well, OK maybe not galore but there are small money prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each class as well as cups and shields for different classes, best in show and junior

Membership

Membership costs just £15 a year (January to December). If you join after September then your membership will run until December the following year. We aim to keep fees as low as possible whilst enabling us to to continue to offer a full range of events and outings.

Meetings

We hold monthly meetings between September and May. These usually include a speaker or demonstration, refreshments, raffle and members can also sell surplus plants and produce.

Shows are run on alternating years, with a summer show one year and a spring and autumn show the next year.

Classes include flowers, fruit and vegetables, food and drink, photography, floral art and crafts. Anyone can enter, even to just enter 1 class so why not give it a go!

Outings

During the summer the society organises outings to places if interest.  This could be a garden, flower show, landmark or nursery. 

Outings are open to members and non-members and charged at cost. 

Benefits

Club members are eligible for a 10% discount on horticultural supplies purchased from Hornsea Animals Feeds, Stebbing.

We also run a group seed purchase scheme with Kings of Coggeshall and members can get a substantial discount when buying seeds via this scheme.
